Dragon Russian in Southwark London

Tangram Theatre Company take over Southwark Playhouse’s Little space this Christmas

When Lancelot arrives at Elsa’s door, falls hopelessly in true love and discovers she’s to be sacrificed the next day, he challenges the town’s Dragon to a fight to the death. What he’s not expecting is that the townspeople will do anything and everything to stay in chains.

Brand new show THE DRAGON by Yevgeny Schwartz

in a new adaptation by Daniel Goldman and Company.
Directed by Daniel Goldman.

Run: Tuesday 16 December 2014 – Saturday 10 January 2015

Following on from their critically acclaimed hit Fuente Ovejuna, multi-award winning Tangram Theatre Company return to Southwark Playhouse with a brand new take on Yevgeny Schwartz’s brilliantly funny 1943 critique of Stalinism and our not-so-secret desire to let others do our thinking for us.

Tangram Theatre Company is an award winning independent theatre company based in London, dedicated to making work that is surprising, irreverent, intelligent, subversive, big-hearted and life affirming. They work with new plays and reimagine classic texts. They do one-person shows and large-scale ensemble shows. As storytellers, content is their forte while formally, all their shows break down the fourth wall and actively engage the audience in the telling of the story. Tangram believe that the theatre experience should be an active one and that the fundamental theatre experience is one of dialogue, of give and take. Shows include 4.48 Psychosis (Time Out Critics’ Choice), Crunch! (Total Theatre Award Nominee), Richard III (Better Bankside Shakespeare Award), F**ked (Time Out Critics’ Choice), The Origin of Species (Best Show Adelaide Fringe Nominee), Almost 10 (Stage Award Nominee), Fuente Ovejuna (Time Out Critics’ Choice & OffWestEnd.com Best Show/Best Director Nominee), Albert Einstein Relativitively Speaking (Brighton Fringe Best Children’s Event Award). Since Tangram Theatre Company was founded in 2006, their shows have reached over 45,000 audience members in over 150 venues across the UK and in Poland, Malta, Norway, Sweden and Australia www.tangramtheatre.co.uk
