3–5 November, 2014 at the Barbican Centre
The masterful Valery Gergiev brings his "Mariinsky Opera" to the Barbican, showcasing Modest Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov, the ultimate Russian Nationalist epic, and the UK premiere of Rodion Shchedrin’s The Left-Hander, based on a famous satirical fable about Russia’s relationship with the West. The Mariinsky Chorus brings the residency to a close with Russian Orthodox sacred choral music and folksong, the twin traditions that inform Rodion Shchedrin’s and Modest Mussorgsky’s operas.
