Courses are taught at various levels from Beginners to Post-Advanced (conditional upon sufficient enrolment). Students are usually able to progress onto the next level after 16 lessons. The varying levels and what is included within each are listed below.
Beginners
For learners who have no previous knowledge of Russian. By the end of the course (16 lessons), students will be able to communicate in and understand Russian in a number of practical everyday situations.
Lower Intermediate
For learners who have studied the language before, for example up to A-level, and have some knowledge of grammar. By the end of the course (16 lessons), students will be able to communicate and understand the language in many practical everyday matters which are related to various aspects of Russian culture. Russian language learning skills are developed and you will be taught how to approach adapted authentic material.
Upper Intermediate
For learners who have a good basic knowledge of the Russian language or those who have studied Russian previously. Students should be able to give instructions and describe events, as well as have a good grasp of grammar. By the end of the course (16 lessons), students will be able to converse fairly fluently and discuss personal, social and current issues using appropriate language. Cultural awareness will also be further developed. Russian language learning skills will be advanced and how to approach authentic material will be enhanced.
Advanced
For those who have a good command of the Russian language or have recently passed Russian as a Foreign Language (TRKI). By the end of the course (16 lessons), students will be able to converse with Russians, follow debates, give short presentations and discuss current issues (local and worldwide) using more complex and linguistically accurate sentence structure. Russian cultural awareness will be further developed and looked at within a European/global context. Russian language learning skills are enhanced and how to approach authentic material will be further developed.
Post-Advanced
For speakers who are able to use Russian language with a high degree of fluency and accuracy. At this level, students will improve their command of topic-related vocabulary and the ability to vary their style according to the situation. Students will be able to use all forms of the language in a professional environment. Russian cultural awareness will be further developed and looked at within a European/global context. Russian language learning skills are enhanced and how to approach authentic material will also be developed.
Proficiency
For speakers who are able to use Russian language fluently and accurately. The main emphasis will be on conversation and group discussions with the extensive use of authentic materials.
Certificates of attendance can be issued upon request (with a minimum of 70% course attendance).
